Lemm Manschinenbau

Since 1950

Our company history

Founded by Joseph Lemm in 1950, in its early years the company was exclusively engaged in contract work for locally-based industrial firms. Demand from Dutch automotive companies led to the start of production of hydraulic stamping presses for vehicle plates. This was how the company began constructing and manufacturing its own machines.

Over many years, this sector of industry formed the basis of the company’s activities, encompassing a wide range of products, reaching a high point in the years after German re-unification.

Mr Lemm made a name for himself in various branches of industry with a wide variety of custom designs until one day he received an inquiry about a lifting tool for paper rolls. The manufacture of a simple reel lifter formed the foundation of today’s company. Some customers recognised how useful and effective this still quite small aid was and encouraged the company founder to participate in an international exhibition (DRUPA) in Düsseldorf. He first participated, along with his wife, in 1972 and it was a great success. The companies issued lots of orders but, even more importantly, their additional requirements pointed the way for the company to develop in new directions.

Our current portfolio for the print, paper, foil and packaging industries is indispensable for meeting today’s ‘Workplace ergonomics’ requirements.

Accessories or order-related production of components for pneumatic drives have for many years now formed another pillar of the modern company’s operations, emerging initially from further involvement in the sphere of drive technology. This encompasses couplings, brackets, spindles, etc., for the chemical industry.

This division of the company has experienced healthy growth over the decades.

To be able to meet market requirements in respect of quality, price and delivery time, our machine plant has been and will be constantly refreshed.

Today

In its more than 70 years of corporate history, Lemm, a medium-sized company, has been able to achieve high product name recognition worldwide in the paper, print, foil and packaging industries. From the brilliant beginnings with the company founder Josef Lemm to today’s generation, the basic idea of the reel turner has remained the same. It will be the task of the next generation to further consolidate this market position or be able to offer future-oriented solutions to industry through simple and solid machine engineering.
